Case Study - Betfair Abbathon

Objective:
To create stand out and impactful digital content for Betfair during the
Eurovision Song Contest, Threepipe created a flashmob stunt in London’s
Leicester Square.

Activity:
The event took place at precisely 6.30pm on the eve of the song contest,
with Abba and Eurovision fans invited to come together to set a new
world record for the most amount of Abba impersonators singing Waterloo
in one place!
The event was promoted online by engagine with Abba fan forums,
flashmob websites and we developed an intensive twitter campaign to
provide up to the minute information about the event.
200 people turned up on the night, dressing up and belting out a ‘unique’
version of Waterloo. PA News came along to capture the event and the
subsequent content was picked up by PA News, Tiscali, Virgin Media
and MSN, and immediately after the event, the media calls came in
requesting images and interviews, including Radio Five Live and Heart FM.
Proving the enduring appeal of Abba, we even had media interest from
Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands!
Video of the event was immediately placed onto targeted online video
sharing sites content allowing consumers around the world to experience
the Abba-fest! Click to view on our YouTube channel...
